Curriculum & Instruction, M.Ed.
The Curriculum and Instruction Comprehensive Master's Programs consist of a set of core classes and a carefully selected sequence of cognate courses designed to meet the needs of our students and the service region. The core consists of seven courses (21 semester hours), and students may choose from four specializations: Primary Education Comprehensive, Elementary Education Comprehensive, Middle Level Education Comprehensive, and Secondary Education Comprehensive.
For each of the above specializations, students will also choose a cognate area in conjunction with an advisor. Possible cognate areas include: Primary Education, Elementary Education, Middle Level Education, Secondary Education, Reading Endorsement, Career and Technical Education, and Instructional Technology. The Elementary Education, Middle Level Education, and Secondary Education cognates each include courses focusing on the instruction of a variety of key subjects, including reading, mathematics, science, and social studies, at the appropriate level. The Primary Education cognate is designed for students working in agencies, schools and early intervention programs focused on preschool aged children. Upon completion of the core and Primary Education cognate, students are prepared to work with infants, toddlers and preschoolers with special needs in a variety of settings. In addition, if they hold an appropriate teaching certificate they can endorse it with Pre Kindergarten Disabilities from the Florida Department of Education. Students completing this program also qualify for application for the Florida Infant/Toddler Developmental Specialist credential.
The 21-semester-hour core of the program is made up of the twelve-semester-hour School of Education Core and the nine-semester-hour Educational Investigative Sequence:
