The application process for potential doctoral students is more involved than it is for any other type of student. Applicants must not only meet university requirements but must also be approved by the College of Professional Studies and the Dean of Graduate Studies. To be considered for admission to the Ed.D. program, you must have a master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university and a Graduate Record Exam (GRE) score. *Administrative Studies, Curriculum and Diversity Studies, and Sciences and Social Sciences specializations only admit students for the fall semester of each year.
Application Process
- Application to UWF. Submit an application to the UWF Office of Admissions. Your application will consist of the following:
- Application Form (online or hard copy)
- Two copies of official transcripts from all colleges and universities you have attended, to be sent to the Office of Admissions
- $30 processing fee
- Official GRE, GMAT, or MAT test results
- Submissions to College of Professional Studies. Complete the Ed.D. admission packet and submit it to the Ed.D. Program Office at the College of Professional Studies (COPS). The packet must contain the following items:
- Ed.D. Specialization Declaration (doc). The table below lists currently available specializations and the coordinators for each.
- Three letters of recommendation from persons in a position to comment about your academic capability and leadership* potential, preferably from teachers or professors
- One-page goal statement describing why you want a Doctor of Education degree (other than a pay raise). What are your career goals? How will the degree help you to achieve these goals? Are you willing to make the long-term commitment to earn a doctoral degree?
*The Instructional Technology specialization does not require letters of recommendations. Please submit a list of references (name, address, telephone number).
- Additional admission requirements for the Teacher Education specialization. If you are applying to the Teacher Education program, you must also
- Have a GRE score of at least 1000 with a minimum verbal score of 500.
- Provide a writing sample of your best academic work.
- Have a face-to-face visit with the program coordinator. Call or e-mail the program coordinator to arrange a time.

Official Scores and Transcripts
GRE scores are considered official only when they are sent directly to the Office of Admissions from the Educational Testing Service in Princeton, New Jersey. Student copies are not considered official. Likewise, college transcripts are considered official only when they are sent from a college or university directly to the Office of Admissions and contain an official seal and/or signature. Transcripts bearing the statement "Issued to Student," transcripts submitted by the applicant, or faxed transcripts are
not considered official.
