Joel Brown
Graduate Assistant, Health Promotions
While earning a Bachelor’s degree in Communications at Washington State University, I became very involved in campus events, student organizations, and various leadership roles on campus. It was from those experiences that I discovered my excitement and enthusiasm for working with college students. After graduating in May 2008, I moved across the country to attend the University of West Florida to pursue a Master's Degree in Education with a specialization in College Student Personnel Administration. During my first year at UWF, I served as a graduate hall director and worked to create a supportive environment for students in the residence halls. Last summer, I worked at the University of Florida in Gainesville as a summer orientation intern. This experience allowed me to learn a lot about new student transition issues while supervising a large student staff and welcoming over 6,500 incoming freshmen. For my last year in my graduate program at UWF, I am proud to serve on the Counseling and Wellness team as a Graduate Assistant. I plan to use my skills and knowledge along with the resources in Counseling and Wellness to have a positive impact on the student body at UWF.
