BEST PRACTICES FOR STUDENT ENGAGEMENT IN FACE-TO-FACE AND ONLINE CLASSES
Keynote Address: The Work of the Regional University: Doing Interesting Scholarly Things
Dr. Bruce B. Henderson
Professor of Psychology, Western Carolina University
Author of "Teaching at the People's University: An Introduction to the State Comprehensive University"
For too long colleges and universities outside the research university sector have relied on an inappropriate standard of publication to judge the quality of their work and their faculties. The Boyer Model was supposed to help but typically in practice has led to a reemphasis on publications, just in a broader set of outlets. We need to go beyond the Boyer Model to develop new ways to identify, encourage, evaluate, and reward a wider range of interesting scholarly things at regional universities.

The complete conference program, Dr. Henderson's handouts, and a video of his presentation are located at the Mini-Conference web page.
