CONSTITUTION OF THE
UWF HAITIAN STUDENTS ASSOCIATION

ARTICLE I
Preamble

We,

ARTICLE II
NAME

The Association shall be called the Haitian Students Association of the University of West Florida

ARTICLE III
PURPOSE

The purpose of this Association is:

  1. To bring Haitian and other interested UWF students together to discover the Haitian culture.
  2. To support and promote social development through group activities
  3. To establish better ties between Haitian students and faculties

ARTICLE IV
MEMBERSHIP

All students enrolled at UWF may become members of the Association.

ARTICLE V
STRUCTURE OF THE ASSOCIATION

There shall be one executive branch in the Haitian Students Association. The executive branch is composed an Executive Board: the President, the Vice President, the Secretary General, and the Treasurer. The executive branch is also composed of a cabinet.

Section I

A. The President is the chief executive of the association, the enforcer and guardian of the constitution of the association. If the president fails to withhold his responsibilities the other three members of the executive branch can call on the president to resign after a 2/3 vote of non confidence have been obtained among all the other members of the association. In such a case the vice President moves up and occupies the functions of president. The other members can choose to move up or remain at their position.
B. The President is elected for a one year term by the members of the association. Only a majority is required in the elections.
C. The President appoints the Vice-President who appoints the Treasurer.
D. The Vice-President presides over the meetings in absence of the President. The Secretary General is to report to the Vice President who does the same to the President.
E. The Treasurer works closely with the Cabinet and reports directly to the President. The Treasurer advises the association on financial matters. Most of all, the Treasurer plans the budget of the association, which shall be approved and executed by the Executive Board.

Section II

A. The Secretary General is also elected by the members of the association for a one year term. He appoints a cabinet which executes the policies and decisions set forth by the President. The cabinet includes the Secretary of Public affairs, the Secretary of Marketing, the Project Coordinator, and the Chief adviser. B. The Secretary of Public Affairs is the spokesperson of the association and shall at all time speak in the interest of the Association. C. The Secretary of Marketing is to promote the Association any way possible and available. D. The Project Coordinator is the architect and engineer of every projects of the Association. E. The Chief adviser is a faculty member advising not only the Secretary General, but also the President.

ARTICLE VI
Elections

The two elected leaders: the President and the Secretary General begins their term the 2nd week within the fall Semester. The elections are held three weeks prior to the end of the summer term. The winner of 50 + 1 of the votes shall be the next President of the Association while the second candidate with the most votes becomes automatically the Secretary General.

ARTICLE VII
MEETINGS

The executive board shall meet at least twice a month. A general meeting is to be held every month. A final meeting at the end of the Spring Semester shall be held to provide a report to every member on the realized and upcoming projects.

ARTICLE VII

A TWO THIRD VOTE IS REQUIRED TO START THE PROCESS OF AMENDING THE CONSTITUTION. A TWO THIRD VOTE IS ALSO REQUIRED AMONG THE EXECUTIVE BOARD. The President then certifies publicly and implements the new amendments in the next general meeting of the association.

ARTICLE VIII

THE FIRST EXECUTIVE BOARD AND CABINET SHALL BE APPOINTED BY THE PRESIDENT.THEY ARE TO IMPLEMENT THIS CONSTITUTION TO THEIR GREATEST CAPABILITY AND ABILITY WHILE FOCUSING ON THE SUMMER ELECTIONS. AFTER THIS ELECTION THE CONSTITUTION SHALL BE RESPECTED AND APLLIED ENITERLY. ARTICLE VIII WILL THEN BECOME INVALID.
