Scholarship Information
Two annual
scholarships are awarded for UWF FPRA student members.
The purpose of the scholarships is to provide tuition
assistance to students who are pursuing a bachelor or arts
degree in public relations at the University of West
Florida. the scholarships are awarded on behalf of
former FPRA leaders, Horace W. "Pete" Olcott and
Colonel John W. Dillin.

Horace W. "Pete" Olcott
Horace W. "Pete" Olcott, Manager of
Public Relations at gulf Power, founded the Miracle Strip Chapter (now known
as the Pensacola Chapter) of FPRA in 1957. It is to his memory and in
grateful appreciation for his dedication to and love for the public relations
profession that this scholarship is dedicated in the amount of $500.

Colonel John W. Dillin
Colonel John Dillin was the founding father of
the Florida Public Relations Association (formerly the Florida Association of
Publicity Relations Directors). Because of his dedication to the field
of public relations and his vision to establish a statewide organization, the
Colonel John W. Dillin scholarship was established in the amount of $250.

Qualifications for Scholarship Consideration
- Must be admitted to UWF as a degree-seeking
student in public relations
- Must be a full-time or part-time student
- Must receive a "B" or higher in
Principles of Public Relations
- Must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.7
- Write a press release announcing self as a
winner of the scholarship
- Applicants must be eligible for only one
scholarship per year
How are the applicants chosen?
Applicants are selected by the Pensacola
Chapter board of directors based on qualifications.
