Department of Communication Arts
School of Fine, Performing and Communication ArtsIf you're looking for a career in communication, the Department of Communication Arts will empower you with the knowledge and skills needed to become successful. Our departmental philosophy is simple: The teaching and training of students is our central mission.
You will be actively engaged in the subject matter of your choosing, studying theory and time-tested strategies and applying them in professional contexts. You might write news stories, design advertisements or create public relations strategies. You might shoot and edit video, write screenplays or make persuasive presentations and speeches. You will learn how to lead. And you'll have opportunity through internships and intensive, project-oriented classes to apply all of this in real-world settings.
Our department goes beyond textbooks and practical applications. We are committed to preparing students to successfully meet the world, not only as communication practitioners, but as citizens as well. So we encourage creativity, foster critical thinking and stress the importance of civic engagement. We emphasize integrity and honesty, accuracy and fairness. We offer support and guidance as you hone your communication skills. And we challenge you to excel beyond your own expectations.
