Nov. 16, 2007 PENSACOLA — Patrick Moore, associate professor and public history program director for the University of West Florida's Department of History, was named the 2007 Carnegie Foundation as the Advancement of Teaching Florida Professor of the Year.
“We couldn't be more proud of Dr. Moore's accomplishments as a teacher, scholar and mentor," said Jane Halonen, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. “He is often cited by students as their favorite professor even when they initially don't think they fancy history very much. Dr. Moore has a transforming touch in the classroom."
Sponsored by The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and administered by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, the awards recognize professors for their influence on teaching and their outstanding commitment to undergraduate students. A state Professor of the Year was selected for 40 states and the District of Columbia.
Moore has received several teaching awards, some of which include the UWF Distinguished Teaching Award (2007, 2000), Teaching Incentive Program Award (2006-2007) and Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching and Advising Award (2003). He belongs to numerous professional and local organizations including the National Council on Public History, American Historical Association, and Society for Applied Anthropology and the Pensacola Historical Society. Moore received his bachelor's degree in history and political science, as well as his master's degree in history from New Mexico State University.
