The Center’s faculty is actively involved in providing a variety of learning opportunities and experiences in an effort to expand the horizons of the students at the University of West Florida. In order to serve the needs of students, The Center will offer workshops, seminars, faculty-led projects, and class projects.
Some recent examples of training and educational opportunities offered by The Center include:
Leadership Developmental Assessment Center (LDAC)
The LDAC is a student-driven project that affords students the opportunity to engage in a simulated accessment center. Students who participate in the LDAC are introduced to exercises commonly used in accessment centers (e.g., in-basket, leaderless group discussion) and act as assessors after receiving formal training. The LDAC is designed to be used as a feedback mechanism. Developmental assessment centers have gained in popularity in the workplace, and provide participants the opportunity to be observed in different work-like situations. Specific dimensions are analyzed throughout the assessment center (e.g., oral communication, problem-solving). Students from several courses have contributed to the project over the past four years.
Projects Related to Course Work
In collaboration with many of the graduate courses at the University of West Florida, students have worked with several local organizations on faculty-guided projects. Additionally, groups have worked directly with the CAP Executive Committee assisting in the advancement of the LDAC. Through these projects, students gain valuable experience and provide local organizations specialized assistance. Students have participated in projects involving personnel selection and appraisal, training and development, organizational change and development, among others. Faculty members are continuously searching for opportunities in which students can become involved.
