About Us
Break the Silence started as a campaign in the Summer of 2004 after a high profile rape occurred on the University of West Florida campus. The campaign was received very well and the response sparked interest in enough people that in the Fall of 2004 Break the Silence began as an official student organization.
Break the Silence is a rape and sexual assault awareness and prevention task force and a registered student organization. We focus on educating the campus community about sexual assault issues. Through both awareness and prevention, we strive together as men and women to end sexual violence.
Break the Silence can also be seen as a referral service among peers. We are able to point you in the right direction and give you the information needed as far as resources go.
Break the Silence welcomes new members interested in helping their campus become more aware about sexual assault issues and in learning more about preventative measures.
