ge·ni·us lo·ci
is a program of lectures and workshops sponsored by the University of West Florida Department of Art, the Lefferts and Mabie Foundation and the UWF Student Government Association. This series is intended to enhance the curriculum for students and to engage the surrounding community with an open dialogue on contemporary art and ideas. This year's theme is "Material", and it emphasizes the importance of form within the contemporary context by focusing on specific and individualistic approaches to materials such as film, sound, projection, time, and architectural space.
Genius Loci, or Spirit of Place, is the sense of continuity and authenticity of a particular location. Each visitor brings with them a sense of their own context, the place from where they produce. All lectures are free and open to the public. Come to The UWF Art Gallery on the main campus in building 82. Call the Art Office at 850-474-2045 for more information.
