TOM WESTCOTT APPOINTED DEAN OF GENERAL STUDIES

Provost Chula King has named Tom Westcott as dean of general studies at UWF. While the position is not new, it is elevated, in that Tom previously served as associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Last year, a study and program review of general education recommended that someone be appointed at the university level to be in charge of the program. Team members of the General Education Assessment and Reform (GEAR) Committee reiterated this recommendation. The appointment of Tom Westcott is in response to these recommendations.

This transition affirms not only the importance of General Education, but also that the program is university-wide.
