The STARC logo was originally hand-drawn by Matt Nemmers in the spring of 2009. Once Nemmers had created a digital copy of the logo, Marc Magruder was able to help increase the resolution, quality and overall appearance. The logo features the STARC acronym across the top-center with nine stars under it. The lower two-thirds of the logo include a set of curved wings with a nautilus shell underneath.
STARC stands for Students Taking Adventures in Recreation in the Community. The name was chosen to highlight the key facets of the program - students, recreation, community - together.
The stars under the acronym represent the nine people who were selected for the initial program staff. Those nine individuals worked together to assemble a quality program for the youth in the Northwest-Florida area. As each new staff member is brought on board, they are encouraged to provide input and insights that may make the program that much better.
The wings are in recognition of STARC’s roots in the UWF Movement Academy, the logo of which contains wings flanking a coat of arms. "Earning wings" is a sign of accomplishment in areas of the U.S. Armed Forces, paticularly the U.S. Air Force.
The nautilus shell, just as in the Academy logo, represents the program’s founding at the University of West Florida. The nautilus shell is sewn in a suspended position in the middle of two talon-like curves that move through the wings. "Sewn" refers to how the nautilus shell is not blocked by any other object in the logo. UWF representatives chose the nautilus shell for the University’s seal to represent constant growth and self improvement.
The background of the STARC logo is navy blue in color and extends past an imaginary box created by the outer-most boundaries of the letters, wings and nautilus shell.
The letters, stars, wings, and shell are displayed in gold when the logo is in full color, and either black on a white background or reversed when printed in two colors.
