Student Green Energy Fund (SGEF) – Important Info
1) The Student Green Energy Fund Proposal is a grassroots, student-led initiative seeking
to create a fund for campus energy efficiency and renewable energy projects at UWF.
FOR EXAMPLE: installing solar panels or energy efficient lighting
2) The proposal says that the UWF Board of Trustees should give students the ability to
vote on whether or not to implement a $1 per-credit-hour “Green Energy” fee.
3) The Student Green Energy Fund (SGEF) has the potential to accumulate over $100,000
per semester and the money could be used within one semester after it is implemented!
4) This “Green Energy” fee, would NOT be implemented unless approved by a
referendum of the student body.
5) The SGEF projects will reduce the university’s utility costs!
6) Lower utility costs means that more money can go towards academics!
7) The SGEF projects will also reduce UWF’s impact on the environment!
The student-led plan for establishing SGEF at UWF is to get approval from the UWF Board of Trustees by collecting petition signatures and by holding a non-binding referendum that would show them evidence of student support and give them the confidence to support SGEF and request that it be approved by the Florida Board of Governors.
