Why did you choose to attend UWF?
Location. I really liked the fact that UWF is on a nature preserve. I loved the environment of the campus. I enjoyed canoe trips on the bayou and walking on the nature trails. In addition, I love to swim and UWF is in close proximity to beautiful beaches.
What were your goals as a student?
To get a good education, to have fun, and to learn life skills.
What is your best memory from your days at UWF?
There are too many to choose only one.
Who was your favorite professor and why?
I had several. Dan Miller he loved the subject of history and it showed through his teaching…he was always excited in class. Jim McGovern He has historical knowledge about anything and everything. He was always so fascinating to talk with. Margaret Stopp I loved her Socratic style. She helped prep her students for a more competitive career. Eric Fitch His passion for environmental conservation and excitement about teaching environmental sciences always shined through.
What do you do now?
Assistant Attorney General for the District of Columbia Department of the Environment.
How did UWF help you progress to this point?
UWF provided a good overall education. It gave me a strong foundation to build upon my communication and professional skills. UWF is so good at providing core fundamental educational skills, such as research and writing.
How do you stay connected to UWF?
I love the Pensacola area, so I visit as often as possible. I read the monthly alumni newsletter (Argo News via e-mail) and the Connection alumni magazine. I attend alumni events in my area with the DC area alumni chapter. I stay in touch with college friends, my two former roommates live nearby and we are still close.
What advice do you have to current and future UWF students?
It is important to enhance your education with student activities that help build your education and communication skills. Never underestimate the importance of tailoring your education to meet your interests. The faculty will work with you to make sure you are getting the education in which you are interested.
What quality makes UWF special or unique?
The faculty, the location, and the size. The area allows it to be a strong liberal arts school. For me, being so close to the coast was important to be able to do hands on projects in my graduate program. It helped enhance our textbook and classroom learning.
Outside of working, what activities and organizations are you currently involved in and what are your hobbies?
Most of the organizations I am involved with have to do environmental conservation. I am a member of several environmental organizations including Sierra Club, NRDC, Greenpeace, Environmental Defense, etc. I am involved with the DC Bar, Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Section. I am involved in politics, and a member of the DNC. My hobbies include softball, swimming, camping, and environmental education.
