Jason Crawford
UWF degree and year of graduation:
BSBA, Management, 2004
Why did you choose to attend UWF?
To be closer to my father. My father has lived in Pensacola almost my whole life and I would visit him every summer growing up. When I researched the UWF College of Business and found that it was top notch, the deal was sealed.
What were your goals as a student?
To learn how to thrive in the real world. To earn a bachelor’s degree, grow personally by my involvement in student life, and to give back to the university through my service and leadership. I wanted to be well rounded so that when I stepped into my first career opportunity I had what it took to succeed.
What is your best memory from your days at UWF?
My first fall semester on campus really changed my life. I was amazed at the number of invitations I received to get involved in campus activities and organizations. It was the fall of 1999 and that’s when I decided to join my fraternity Sigma Alpha Epsilon and the University Ambassador Program. The student focus and open arms of the campus gave me the opportunity to be part of the university not just a number on a class roster.
Who was your favorite professor and why?
That’s not fair because I have many… Mr. Greg Yost first challenged me, Dr. Gayle Baugh went out of her way to help me, and Dr. Brian Peach made it all relevant.
What do you do now?
I bring national lenders in residential and commercial financing to Pensacola and help our clients find the best financing for their situation. I work for O’Sullivan Creel Wealth Advisors as a Mortgage Consultant.
How did UWF help you progress to this point?
I owe a great deal of my progress to the University. I truly believe that you get out of something what you put into it, but I feel like that was multiplied at UWF.
How do you stay connected to UWF?
Being in Pensacola helps a lot, but I still read the newsletter and try to stay up with what the BOT is up to.
What advice do you have to current and future UWF students?
90% of the skills you need you will learn outside of the classroom. Get involved in a student organization, work a part-time job, and get to know your professors on a personal level. These are the activities that will mold you into an educated young professional.
What quality makes UWF special or unique?
“The buildings have numbers and the students have names.”
Outside of working, what activities and organizations are you currently involved in and what are your hobbies?
I currently serve on the board of the Pensacola Bay Area Chamber of Commerce and Communities in Schools. I am the president of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon House Corporation and the chairman of the Pensacola Young Professionals. I coach baseball at West Florida High School and enjoy a good round of golf. However, the time that I cherish the most is with my wife Heather.
