K.C. Clark
UWF Degree/Grad. Yr.:
BA Accounting, 1985; MA Accounting, 1986
Why did you choose to attend UWF?
I was a non-traditional student and one of my faculty members at St. Petersburg Junior College recommended the accounting program at UWF. When I visited UWF, Hite Bennett, offered to meet with me on a Saturday morning. It was a great visit and that made my decision easy.
What were your goals as a student?
Simply to receive a good education and finish in a timely manner.
What is your best memory from your days at UWF?
That’s easy…meeting my wife Lori. And, I loved the atmosphere and the way that faculty connected with students.
Who was your favorite professor and why?
Two professors come to mind. From accounting, Ron Gray was wonderful and struck me as the smartest man I had met to that point. Also, C.C. Elebash’s class on corporate finance was outstanding. He was very effective at including real work examples into the class.
What do you do now and how did UWF help you progress to this point?
I am a Deal Manager in Equity Capital Markets at Raymond James and Associates. The real world concepts and learning at UWF provided me with a leg up for my career and work today.
Describe any other areas that you are involved in, such as volunteer work, mentoring, serving on various Boards, etc.?
In addition to serving as Chair of the UWF Board of Trustees, I serve on the Institute for Human and Machine Cognition (IHMC) Board, and have been active in United Way and arts organizations in the St. Petersburg area.
How do you stay connected to UWF?
That’s not a problem…as a member of the Board of Trustees I have many opportunities to be informed about and engaged with UWF.
What advice do you have for current and future UWF students?
First, take advantage of all the opportunities that UWF offers. And, learn a second language…you will never regret it.
What quality makes UWF special or unique?
A strong focus on students.
